Anna Maria Feit studied Computer Science at Saarland University from 2008 to 2013. She then moved to Helsinki to pursue her doctoral studies at Aalto University in the field of Human-Computer Interaction. Her doctoral thesis on the topic of optimizing text input methods received the SIGCHI outstanding dissertation award. From 2018 to 2020, she has been a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich.
Anna Maria Feit’s scientific focus is on the development of algorithmic and mathematical methods for optimizing and adapting user interfaces. Such “intelligent” applications should adapt to the needs and abilities of the user and make it as easy as possible for them to operate computers and other technical devices. To this end, Anna Maria Feit is developing mathematical and computational models that capture and predict user behavior. Her work to date has focused primarily on users’ basic motor and cognitive skills. It was used, for example, in the development of the new standard for French keyboards, which are now sold throughout France.
At Saarland University, Anna Maria Feit will focus on the issue that technical devices are nowadays used in very different environments and situations: on the bus as well as on the sofa, by one or more people at the same time and sometimes in parallel with other devices. As a result, the user’s attention, interaction possibilities and interests are constantly changing. In order to better integrate technology into our real world in the future, she will develop computational methods that allow applications to automatically adapt to these different situations and to a user’s changing interests and capabilities, while remaining predictable and controllable for the user.
Anna Maria Feit started as professor at Saarland University on January 1, 2021.
